The glass-enclosed wine cellar looks inviting.

The Harvest Wine Cellar team (a member of the Wine Cellar Designers Group), under the leadership of Tim Wright, recently built a commercial wine cellar for Cut Restaurant in Rosewood Hotel in Washington of world-renowned chef, Wolfgang Puck. Monarch Construction, which was the construction firm in charge of building the rest of the restaurant, contacted the team to help them build an elegant commercial wine cellar for their client, Wolfgang Puck.

Classy Commercial Wine Racking System for Wolfgang Pucks’ CUT Restaurant in Rosewood Hotel

For this project, the team combined both traditional design and contemporary design. Both designs complement well with each other. It’s like having the best of both worlds. For the wine racking system, the team used a combination of wooden racks and stainless-steel wine racks. The glass enclosing all the wines further added a modern feel to the wine cellar.

When you reach the vicinity of the restaurant, you can clearly see the beauty and symmetry of the wine walls all lined up from the outside. It looks inviting for both patrons and would-be-customers thanks to the well-designed wine cellar setup by the team.

Wine Racking System of the Commercial Wine Cellar

Sapele Mahogany was used for the main framework of the commercial wine racking system. Then they applied a black microderm stain to the Sapele Mahogany to give it a blackish, coffee-like base color. To top it off, a layer of satin finish was applied. This finish gives the wood panels that much-needed luster to complement the stainless-steel wine racks. It also helps preserves the wood and enhances the moisture resistance capability of Sapele Mahogany. Stainless steel racks, along with the glass panels, were finally added to complete the transitional wine cellar look.

Sapele Mahogany racks blends well with metallic racks.

The team has chosen to use Sapele Mahogany for this project for a number of reasons. One, it has a fine grain pattern and easily shines when finishing oils are applied to it. Second and most importantly, it is resistant to moisture and mildew. Sapele darkens naturally with age if no finish is applied. That’s another fascinating characteristic of this wood. But, to maximize the preservation of the wine racking system, the team opted to have a finishing layer applied.

The black microderm stain used for the wooden parts of the wine racking system looks really elegant with the metallic elements. But it is a very detailed process to achieve since each panel is hand-stained individually. This also explains why it demands a higher price compared to other wood stains. But the premium look it gives when done is worth the investment especially if you’re looking to astonish your guests or your customers.

The stainless-steel wine racking system paired with glass panels and ribbon LEDs placed throughout the wine cellar gives emphasis to the large volume of wine collection Wolfgang Puck has in his restaurant. The sophisticated display of the extensive wine collection from the outside is suggestive of a posh dining experience that the restaurant can offer.
