One of our members, Steve Pantalemon, recently did a modern wine cellar with contemporary LED lighting in Palm Springs. This project was a challenging undertaking for the team. The client wanted a shorter time frame to build the wine cellar. He also requested that the team help transport his wine collection from his old house in Hollywood to his new home in Palm Springs. Read on to learn more details about the project.

A Modern Wine Cellars Project with Trendy Features

Steve and his team did a spectacular job on this modern wine cellar project. Modern design is very prominent for this wine storage. The wine room opens with a glass-paneled door with a metal door handle. Inside, triple-deep metal racks are installed on an orange back panel in the center. Then for the side, single deep metallic racks were installed. At first glance, you might think the wine cellar has no cooling system installed. But if you look above the ceiling, you can see the vent of the cooling system. It maintains the optimum temperature for the wine collection. For the wine cellar lighting, the team used adjustable RGB LED bulbs.

Obstacles the Team Had to Tackle to Achieve a Modern Wine Cellars Masterpiece

This triple deep metal wine racking system brings a touch of modern sophistication to your wine collection display.

The team did a magnificent job for this modern wine cellar. However, they encountered several challenges during the design and construction process:

  1. The client requested that the wine cellar be completed in the shortest time possible.
  2. The crew assisted in transporting the client’s wine collection from Hollywood to Palm Springs.
  3. They had to tailor-fit the cooling system to protect the wine cellar and its content from the harsh climate in Palm Springs.

The team resolved all these pitfalls and completed the project with flying colors. The construction of the contemporary glass wine cellar was finished in 45 days (about 1 and a half months), well within the client’s expected time frame. Speeding up a project can require extra time and additional costs, but no matter when we complete a custom wine storage project, it will be done professionally and beautifully.

Steve knew the wines would be exposed to punishing desert temperatures (which could ruin their quality) en route to Palm Springs. To resolve this minor nuisance, Steve hired a refrigerated van to transport all the wines. As expected, the wine collection arrived in Palm Springs in pristine condition.

Palm Springs has a humid climate for the majority of the year. Temperature can reach as high as 123°F, especially during June, July, and August. And to protect the wine cellar and its content from temperature extremes in Palm Spring, the team installed spray foam application in the wall cavity of the wine cellar. This application will also deter the formation of water droplets in the wall cavity and inside the wine cellar, which could affect the humidity in the wine cellar.

Minimalist Metallic Wine Racking System for the Modern Wine Room

The designated area for the wine cellar was formerly a bar. This client no longer used it, so he opted to have it replaced with a wine cellar instead. Steve’s team demolished the back wall, removed all the studs and the bar, and removed the sink. Then, they built an orange back panel to install the polished stainless steel Vintage View triple deep metal wine racks. And on the sides, Vintage View single deep was used. Below that, there are wooden cases that further increase the wine bottle capacity of the wine cellar. This wine cellar has a max capacity of about 500 bottles.

When viewed from afar and at a certain angle, wine bottles appear floating in the air. Vintage View’s metallic wine racks’ minimalist design made this optical illusion possible. Aside from that, the wine cellar looks posh because of the polished metallic finish of the wine racks.

Effortlessly adjust the temperature and humidity with just a touch, ensuring your wine collection is always perfectly stored.

Masterfully Done Modern Wine Cellar Cooling System

The hot and humid climate in Palm Springs could threaten the wine collection. Daily temperatures can get very high in the summer and much colder in the winter. The highest recorded temperature was recorded at 123°F. These extreme temperature levels could ruin the delicate aging process of the wine. Wine should be kept at around 55°F to 57°F with a relative humidity of 50%-70%.

Steve’s team tore down the wall from the existing bar and its other components. They rebuilt the wall. But, within the cavity of the reconstructed wall, they did spray foam application. It functioned as a vapor barrier within the wine cellar. The spray foam application further increased the R-value of the wine room.

A WhisperKOOL Split Type Ceiling Mount Mini Cooling Unit was installed to make sure that the temperature in the modern wine room won’t exceed 57°C. You can only see the vent of the cooling unit inside the wine cellar. The rest of the cooling unit parts were secluded in the ducting system or placed elsewhere. The room’s absence of other cooling unit parts made the wine cellar look clean, minimalist, and organized.

Adjustable RGB LED Lighting for the Contemporary Wine Cellar

Lighting adds more spice to your wine cellar. It helps your rare and beloved wine collection to pop out for your would-be guests when they visit your wine room. But not all type of lighting is suitable for your wine cellar. Traditional lighting using incandescent light bulbs can do more harm than good. These bulbs emit heat that could alter or destroy the quality of your wines. You shouldn’t use this kind of lighting for your wine cellar.

For this project, Steve and his team ingeniously used RGB LED lighting. Unlike incandescent lamps, LED bulbs emit no damaging heat when lit. You can adjust the LED lighting through the wall-mounted tablet outside the wine cellar. With a quick swipe of the tablet, you can change its color to red, blue, green, or white. Additionally, you can also adjust the luminosity from the same panel. Integrating modern technology for this wine cellar lighting would leave your guest in awe.
