Glass wine cellars are high in demand among homeowners who want their guests to enjoy the view of their wine display area from the outside. Our partners in wine cellar construction have built stunning glass wine cellars with distinctive features.

Glass Wine Cellars: Features and Benefits

Traditional wine rooms mostly have solid wood doors, while some have a door made from wood with glass and wrought iron. For clients who do not want to hide their wine display, we recommend glass wine cellars to provide visibility of the wines without entering the wine storage structure.

More homeowners are becoming more interested in creating a modern wine cellar for their collection. Our team at Wine Cellar Designers Group has received calls from clients asking us about the features and benefits of glass wine cellars. We collaborate with top-notch builders worldwide, including Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, and Wine Cellar Specialists. Read on to see some of the projects they have completed.

A Glass Front Home Wine Cellar by Vintage Cellars

Glass Wine Cellar with Wooden Wine Racks

Vintage Cellars built a glass-enclosed custom wine cellar for a large room in a modern home. It is located next to the dining area. To give a wow factor to the wine cellar, Vintage Cellars installed a glass front. The entrance door is located in the back hallway.

Anyone who will pass the elegant dining room will be impressed by how the team designed the wine display area. What makes this glass wine cellar pop out is the combination of glass, mirrors, metal, finishes wood, and neutral colors.

Metal and Wood Wine Racks

Upon entering this unique wine storage structure, you will find single-deep VintageView metal wine racks mounted on the right wall. The racking holds the bottles in a label forward configuration. Displaying the bottles with the labels facing out provides easy perusal of the wines.

To the left of the door is the wooden racking made from All-Heart Redwood, which adds a warm ambiance and timeless appeal to the wine room. It consists of a combination of individual wine racks at the top section, diamond bins at the bottom, and two levels of high reveal display rows in between.

Wooden wine racks were also installed on the wall across the entrance door. Like the adjacent wall, it has individual wine racks but only has one level of display row and case storage bins at the bottom. With a total capacity of 600 bottles, this contemporary wine room is a showpiece!

A Wine Storage Closet Converted into a Modern Glass Wine Cellar

The homeowners of a lavish home sought the help of Steve, the owner of Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, to convert a space in their home into a modern glass wine cellar. As the clients requested, the Coastal team focused on aesthetics rather than the storage capacity of their wine room. Steve was challenged to create a feature to achieve a distinctive look.

They included a double glass door installed between the affixed glass panels on the sides of the entryway. The seamless glass front helps enhance the experience of the owner’s family and guests while eating their favorite meal in the dining area.

Wine Rack Styles

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars had to complement the existing interior design of the home, which was all built-in white oak. They added wooden components, which are the panels installed on the left and right sides of the back wall. Steve decided to include wooden shelves attached to the luminous center panel to allow the homeowners to display some of their favorite vintages. It took the Coastal team a bit of time to finish installing the mirror tiles.

For the metal components, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars mounted VintageView wine racks on the wooden panels. With a label-forward bottle configuration, reading the wine labels becomes more convenient. The fusion of wood and metal, plus the mirror tile panels, increased the aesthetic value of the home.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars has proven its creativity and expertise in wine cellar conversion. In one of their projects, a client, who lives in a condominium, had an existing 3-door custom wine cabinet installed in an open-plan dining and living room. The homeowners contacted the Blue Grouse team because they needed help with their wine cellar renovation project. Since they have a growing collection, they wanted to increase the storage capacity of their wine storage system. This compact glass wine cellar has a frameless glass double-door with two fixed glass panels on the sides.

Wine Rack Features

Blue Grouse reconfigured the space to achieve the bottle capacity, and they combined various racking styles. At the top section of the back wall, you will see a rectangular opening with shelves intended for highlighting some of the prized wines in the client’s collection. A high-reveal display row was also included in the middle of three walls in the wine room. The rest of the racking consists of individual wine storage slots and diamond bins.

The wine racks were made from Walnut, a type of wood known for its durability, strength, and versatility. The wine racks were oiled to achieve a richer and darker color.

Technical Requirements for Building Glass Wine Cellars

As professional builders, we are aware of the requirements for building glass wine cellars. Insulation and sealing components must be installed to prevent wine storage problems in the future. Glass panels should be made of thermally insulated glass panels. Moreover, glass doors must be equipped with sealing components like weather stripping and an automatic door bottom.
