How Harvest Custom Wine Cellars Turned a Space into a Home Wine Cellar Packed with Stylish Features

Harvest Custom Wine Cellars is known for its passion and extensive experience in wine cellar design and construction. For them, aesthetics and functionality are their priorities. In one of their projects in Maryland, they had to create a wine storage room based on inspiration pictures provided by the client.

Initially, the clients wanted a traditional wine cellar, so the Harvest team explained the common features of a traditional wine room. Later on, there were modifications before the final design was made. The owners realized they wanted minimal and clean lines in their home wine cellar.

She found another photo inspiration of a transitional home wine cellar that was leaning towards a minimalist design. To meet the needs of the client, Harvest Custom Wine Cellars created a design, incorporating some of the features of the wine cellar on the photo presented by the client.

Impressive Wine Racks Designed for an Elegant Home Wine Cellar: Achieving Beauty and Functionality

Impressive wood wine racks designed for a home wine cellar in Maryland

Harvest Custom Wine cellars always want to design wine racks with form and function in mind, regardless of the room’s size. This home wine cellar in Maryland measures only 9.25 feet x 7.7 feet. Despite the limited space, the Harvest team was able to come up with a design intended to maximize storage capacity.

Initially, the architect created a beautiful design layout for this home wine cellar. We worked closely with him to ensure that everything was in place. He planned to mount the refrigeration system on one of the walls.

However, after a careful assessment, Harvest Custom Wine Cellars had to modify the placement and type of wine cooling unit, considering the cooling capacity of the equipment. This solution has allowed for 30 more slots for the client’s bottles.

Wine Racks on the Left and Right Walls

The homeowners requested to incorporate rectangular bins into the design of this home wine cellar. The Harvest team added twelve bins on each sidewall, allowing for storing wooden cases and bottles with the caps facing out. These wine racks are double deep to increase the storage capacity of the wine cellar. The tabletop above the bins serves as a place for decanting, serving, and tasting wines.

At the top section of the left and right walls, you will see individual wine racks and display rows that pitch the bottles at an angle. Storing the bottles in the display rows will keep the cork moist, preventing the cork from shrinking and the wine from being oxidized.

The display rows were divided into sections to make inventory more convenient because they allow the client to organize her collection easier. Each section in a row can be used to sort the bottles according to variety or region. A beautiful LED lighting system was installed above the display rows.

Wine Racks on the Back Wall

Harvest Custom Wine Cellars made the back wall the focal point of this home wine cellar in Maryland. They installed a rectangular opening and a tabletop at the center. It is surrounded by single bottle storage racks. You will see a display row on both of its sides. The bottom section consists of magnum slots on the sides and individual wine racks at the center.

Wine Cellar Cooling System

Harvest Custom Wine Cellars is composed of HVAC specialists who have extensive knowledge in refrigeration and repair services. For many years, they have been providing innovative wine cooling solutions to wine collectors, builders, and contractors. They always want to ensure the safety of their client’s collection. They use high-grade wine cellar refrigeration systems capable of creating the perfect environment for wine aging.

In this home wine cellar project, the contractor initially wanted to install a through-the-wall cooling unit. The Harvest team, led by Tim, was able to assess the required capacity of the cooling system for the wine room through heat load calculation. The refrigeration unit recommended by the architect was not large enough to cool the wine room. Moreover, it would require an exhaust room for the dissipation of heat and noise.

Keep in mind that choosing a climate control unit that is too small for the size of the wine cellar will cause wine storage issues. There will be temperature fluctuations, which will affect the quality of the wines.

A CM (Ceiling Mount) 8000 wine refrigeration unit from WhisperKOOL was installed.  It was mounted to the ceiling. It was a space-savvy solution because no racking space was occupied. Since it is a split system, the evaporator was placed inside the home wine cellar while the condenser was located outdoors, offering a quiet operation.
