An Aquarium-Like Glass Wine Cellar Built in a Modern Home 

In one of the modern glass wine cellars built by Coastal Custom Wine Cellars in California, a pillar in the living room was demolished to accommodate the wine room construction project. Anyone who sees the exceptional wine display will be amazed.  

The cable wine racks display the bottles as if they are floating in mid-air or like fish inside a tall aquarium. The shiny parts of the racking system add character to the wine cellar.  

To maximize the storage capacity of the compact wine cellar, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars installed triple deep wine racks, which can hold up to 86 bottles in a label-forward configuration. To make the wine cellar look bigger and wider, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars installed a mirrored wall panel that hides the wine cooling unit. 

The frameless glass walls are ½-inch thick, tempered, and thermally insulated to prevent condensation build-up. A 24-inch polished stainless steel handle was used for the door, complementing the sleek wine cellar. A spray foam insulation was used to create an airtight seal, preventing air leakage to and from the wine cellar.  

The lighting system adds character to the modern wine cellar. A 3/4-inch acrylic light panel was installed at the top and bottom sections of the glass wine cellar to highlight the cable wine racks dramatically. The soft lighting can be adjusted to achieve the mood the owners want.

In a recent project completed by Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, the enviable modern wine display brought the client’s living room to life. The triple-deep cable wine racks were the perfect wine storage solution for this multi-faceted wine cellar consisting of five sections.  

There is a fireplace in the middle of the wall, flanked by two large sections of wine displays. At the top section, the Coastal team created three small rectangular openings consisting of cable wine racks designed to hold large-format bottles.   

One of the reasons cable wine racks are widely used in building modern glass wine cellars is their versatility and design flexibility. You can customize the spacing of the cradles to satisfy your aesthetic and functional needs. In this project, the metal racking is arranged to display bottles in a cascading manner. Moreover, it also creates the illusion of bottles floating in mid-air.  

The glass doors provide a clear view of the bottles even from afar. Each glass door is made of thermally insulated glass panels and has a metal pull handle. For the lighting system, we placed an alabaster panel behind the cable racking to allow the light to pass through the small gaps and crevices. The random light streaks on the surface look attractive.
